Stalked by the Kraken by Lillian Lark

Available Now

Reader friends, I heard about this book from Katee Robert’s TikTok which is one of the best places to find rec’s for wild and bonkers romance. Katee is currently releasing some really wild books with some incredible covers that I cannot wait to get my hands on. After hearing about this book and knowing that I would definitely read it at some point, I heard a Bonkers Romance episode with Lillian Lark that was so much fun that I immediately added it to my KU list and devoured it! Also, Lark has the content warnings for this book here.

Working as a matchmaker in her family’s magical bathhouse leaves Rose surrounded by happy couples, but when her own perfectly matched boyfriend leaves her, she’s left heartbroken and unsure of her own abilities. When the gorgeous and mysterious Gideon approaches her about a entering into an agreement…with Rose. What Rose doesn’t know, is that Gideon is a kraken, one of the few left, and has already discovered that she is his fated mate. Trying his best to play it cool and not scare Rose off, Gideon thinks easing into a relationship with Rose via the bathhouse is a good and rational idea. If he begins their relationship having incredible sex and capturing that magical energy to benefit the bathhouse, surely Rose will develop feelings for him.

I love romance books.

This was really, really good. Lillian Lark is amazing at creating magical characters that are interesting and relatable. Rose’s confidence is shaken by the ending of her last relationship and it’s hard for her to focus on matching other couples when she can’t seem to match herself. She also has a family business to keep afloat, friends to support, and now a very handsome and sexy man who seems to only want a business relationship. Gideon, secretive by nature and necessity, is used to keeping his feelings held close and now with his inner kraken who is screaming that Rose is his mate, Gideon is struggling to find balance. The two have so much to overcome to make their relationship work and it’s quite the journey for them. This is also a very, very steamy book. Consent is done really well and the scenes are very well written. Super hot stuff.

The magic system is really interesting. In the bathhouse, there are magical tiles that siphon off the excess sexual magical energy that can be stored and used for spells and things. There’s also some fun side characters that show up in other books-I just finished Three of Hearts this week-and I’m very curious how this world building will continue.

Overall, absolutely loved it. If you have KU, it’s available there. Not a KU user? You can find ordering information here:
