Chilling Effect by Valerie Valdes
/I loved it. It has all the best elements of a space adventure you can ask for: a diverse crew, psychic cats, secrets kept to protect everyone, and lots of stuff blowing up.
or, my new favorite book!
I loved it. It has all the best elements of a space adventure you can ask for: a diverse crew, psychic cats, secrets kept to protect everyone, and lots of stuff blowing up.
There are a ton of twists and turns within the book and I don’t want to give any of it away, but please know that this book is dark. It’s incredibly written and I loved it, but there were many times I had to put it down, walk away for a while, and come back to it. But it’s definitely worth reading. It’s really good-just really dark.
If you love dystopian female empowerment stories, this is perfect for you.
That’s all you need to know. It’s incredible. It’s full of action, sword fighting, magic, spells, and hot necromancers. What more do you want?
Read MoreThe story is very fast paced with interesting characters and incredibly detailed world building. If you’re looking for nightmares-definitely give this one a try.
Read MoreOh Reader Friends, did you know that there was this wonderful little short story collection about an 88 year old serial killer?
Read MoreThe Downstairs Girl is a fast paced, well written story that tackles racism and sexism while providing an important insight into our nation’s history. Jo is smart and ambitious and doesn’t let anything stop her from reaching her goal. I loved how she never backed down and always did what she felt was right. Jo’s strength and determination was a great contrast to the sullen and snobbish Caroline.
Read MoreThis book was such a warm hug after reading a series of heavier topics. The writing was well done, the characters were well developed, and you could smell the pie being served at the diner.
Read MoreThe best part of Wilder Girls? It's Rory Power's debut novel. I can't wait to see what she comes up with next.
Read MoreA dark and thrilling tale of obsession and greed
Read MoreIf you have plans to hit an escape room anytime soon-you must read this book first! Full of twists, turns, and a heavy dose of revenge, The Escape Room will keep you enthralled from beginning to end.
When four highly successful Wall Street financial analysts find themselves called to an emergency meeting, no one questions the time or location. When it becomes clear that their elevator isn't taking them to the appropriate floor, the four realize it must be an escape room type exercise to determine who will remain employed at their prestigious firm. Working in such a ruthless career field where each person is only focused on their own success, the four are unable to work together to solve the mysteries given to them by their enigmatic captor. Can they solve the riddles before time runs out?
This book comes with a few caveats-you need to suspend belief and just enjoy the ride. While there were a few points where I found myself saying out loud, "Seriously?!?", overall, this is a great revenge story and I really enjoyed it. It's difficult to tell more about the plot without giving away all the surprises, but just know that each character plays a vital part in the story and no one is as they seem. I found the plot moved very quickly and it wrapped up with a very satisfying ending.

Theme Music is one of the most banapants books I’ve read this year. When Dixie Wheeler’s family home comes up for sale, she jumps on the chance to buy it back. But Dixie’s house is a stigmatized property; it’s the house where her father brutally murdered her entire family when she was only 1 year old.
Read MoreComing out, loss, loneliness, religion, betrayal and jealousy can all be found within the pages of this short but powerful collection. Compelling and engaging, We Love Anderson Cooper will stay on your mind long after you leave it’s pages.
I absolutely loved this book. Well written, with interesting characters and the ability to transport you through time, it would be a great choice for lovers of witchcraft and America’s occult history.
Read MoreAsk Again, Yes is one of the most emotionally devastating books I’ve read in a long time. I spent the majority of the book crying my eyes out for characters that I just met and woke the next day to an intense book hangover and puffy eyes.
Grady has found a crack in the wall—a crack to the outside world. But all he knows about life outside the compound comes from books, magazines, and a photograph of a creature that no longer exists. Things change when he meets a girl with raspberry-yellow hair, and a secret that could lead them to a world beyond the walls. A world where their abilities could change everything … or lead them both to ruin.
Gods of Jade and Shadow was my introduction to Mexican mythology and I couldn’t have asked for a more beautifully written guide. Full of magic and mystery, Gods of Jade and Shadow was an engrossing and thrilling read that kept me captivated from start to finish.
Read MoreI loved this book! It’s such a juicy and thrilling look into the lives of the wealthy-and wanna be wealthy-suburban families that base their success on the performance of their children. Private horse riding lessons, elite soccer clubs, special STEM classes, and even college courses are a typical daily activity for these gifted and privileged children. But what does it really take to get your kids into these programs? A large donation? Maybe knowing someone on the board? What do you do when you have multiple children and only one is able to make the cut?
Who has the time for any of this nonsense?
